The Love of God... Thanksgiving to me...

My husband was reading in Romans 8 last night, and shared one of my favorite passages with me. As with all of God's word, the familiar old passages... become new... again.

From Romans 8...

..."what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn't gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God's chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ's love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture...
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I'm absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us." (The Message)


Of all that I am thankful for this year, through the ups and downs of life, and the blessings that abound, it is God's LOVE for me...

I can't think of THE LOVE OF GOD in song, without hearing in my head this song, sung by George Beverly Shea... Remember???

Take a minute to listen, and to thank God for HIS great love for you. It's because of HIS love, and HIS gift of life to me, that I have hope in my heart, and joy that this world does not offer. Words are not enough....

How thankful I am also for God's love for me. Yes, I know this song. George Beverly Shea actually came to my church about 11 years ago. My parents were visiting me in Phoenix at the time and we were able to go together. My mom has since died but I remember how she enjoyed his music. Thanks for the wonderful memory that comes to mind as I listen. And how grateful I am for my Lord's love.

I think Romans 8 is my favorite chapter of all the Pauline scriptures! It does engender gratitude, if not powerful courage.

Don't you just love this season of thankfulness? Every time I begin listing specifics I have to take a deep breath. It's endless!

Oh, what a wonderful post and I love this version of Romans 8.....

One of my all-time favorite singers and definitely one of the top 3 favorite songs that he sings. I also love "I'd Rather Have Jesus" and can't think what the third might be....

The Love of God was my grandfather's favorite, I think. He would sit on the piano bench as I played and we would sing it together.
