I'm not flunkin' the Dunkin' test...

For 5 months, I've passed the sign, about 1/2 mile from the area where I live.

COMING SOON.. DUNKIN' DONUTS.

Now it's almost ready to open.

I have a long standing love (craving, weakness...) for Dunkin' Donuts. Krispy Kremes were never a big temptation, they just didn't taste the same.

But THIS is a serious test, one that will be a daily red flag as I drive by. I wish it were not that way, but I know it will be. Certain foods just draw you in, so here is my plan...

I'm not going there.

If I never park my car in front, or drive through their drive through... I will not eat donuts!

The reason this is important is because I am not one of those who casually orders a donut and goes on her way.

I am not a one donut Dunkin' Donut girl.

If I only had one, I would be thinking of the one I ate and the one I didn't eat, until I went back and got the other one, and you just can't do that every day as you pass the place. Some of you would be fine with just doing it once in awhile, not me.

So... if I never have a Dunkin' Donut (and for about 35 years I've managed not to), then I will be fine. That's my plan.. to just keep driving.

(Of course, if I ever DID stop and have one, it would be either Bavarian Creme filling, Lemon or raspberry filling or even just the plain old cake donut, but for sure, one of each.)

I know there is a spiritual lesson here...

There are certain things, certain areas of life, that for us, are better left alone. We know what they are. They may not be sinful in and of themselves, but it may be risky territory for me.

Sometimes The Message says things in a way that makes me laugh out loud...

Proverbs 23
Restrain Yourself ] [ 6 ] ... Don’t gobble your food, don’t talk with your mouth full. And don’t stuff yourself; bridle your appetite. ...

Rather than gobble and stuff, I intend to bridle.

That's my plan and I'm stickin' to it!

(Dedicated to my family, who knows this about me, but loves me anyway! :) )

Oh my goodness....lol I am laughing aloud over here. LOVE the way the message says that verse. I have not read that and I have that version here on my study pile. It may be my new go to verse. I am FINALLY dieting. I have not thought it about for sooo long that it is just scary for a number of reasons. But the Lord has gently let me know that the time is here and now and I am on it. Trust me, I'd have to fishtail past that donut shop. I haven't had one of those in years either I guess, but I can smell them and imagine the gooey sweetness with a cup of hot tea or coffee. Thanks for the smile this morning. Enjoy your day!

So funny!! One of the *blessings* of living in my little mountain town is that we have NO chain places - to shop, to eat, to gobble and stuff or shop 'til we drop!

However, when I come down to visit family, I have to restrain myself from over-indulging. A temptation I have resisted so far? In-N-Out Burger...

So, Mrs. Bridle, this was a funny story with a great message. We do well to remember that God always provides a way to run from temptation - and sometimes, it just means driving by...

LOVE LOVE LOVE this! I loved how you relate it to scripture. I think it's so wise to know what our "Duncan Donuts" are in life and keep driving right on by.

Your post got my mind on a typical Debbie ramble this morning to certain things like technological/cyber donuts that I always have to drive right past.

(Thankfully, your blog isn't one of them. I can savor my time here.)

I am reminded that "the highway of life is dotted with many tempting parking places" so I better be careful which exit I take! My weakness is Handel's ice cream and it is as difficult as your donut addiction. . .I do occasionally give in, however, suffer the guilt and go back on my diet - ugh! A never ending process - like God forgiving us, which thankfully IS never ending :) Many blessings,Sonja!

I am laughing. I just thought the other day I was going to have to have to stop at Dunkin Donuts because my Dad use to buy them for us on Saturday morning, and I wanted to feel like a child again. Now there are a lot of other things I need to pass up. For some it is okay, for me it isn't. My kids always laugh at the things I feel I am to pass up.
Good post.

Sonja, this made me laugh out loud. I too have a terrible weakness for donuts, I skipped them for almost 20 years and then when Starbucks started selling them, I got into a terrible downward spiral with old fashioned donuts...I think you're right, better to avoid them altogether!

For each of us that temptation is different. Dunkin Donuts aren't mine as I can have just one. But I have other things like pretzels and potato chips and all things salty that are more tempting for me. I just have to not buy them and stay away from having just one. :)

Love,
Debbie

Oh snap. Busted!

For me, it not's donuts, it's ice cream. You ought to see my freezer. Just this morning I told myself I am not buying any more once these are gone. It's a trick I play on myself all the time.

More little foxes. I think the Lord's telling me something through you. While I chuckle, I also know to listen. There's powerful truth here.

I had to smile at this post ... Shipley Donuts used to be my weakness, But alas there aren't any donuts (none, nada, zip) out here on the Montana prairie ... except for those I make myself and they aren't anywhere near as good as Shipley's.
Blessings,
