Drinking fountains and sharing faith...

Listening to Greg Laurie in the car as I was running errands this week, I had to laugh at his description of how, during his high school years, as a brand new christian, he wanted to tell everyone in any way he could, about Jesus, and how his life was changed.

He stood by the drinking fountain in his high school and every time a kid came by and took a drink, Greg said... "If you drink that water, you will thirst again"...

He said each kid looked at him like he was crazy, and quickly went on their way.

Greg said... "It worked for Jesus, but it didn't work for me."

He began to learn about the Holy Spirit preparing each heart to hear about Jesus, and he began to pray, and approach things in a new way, as he moved forward.

I remember as a kid thinking I HAVE to share about Jesus and get people saved... one day in grade school, I was in the restroom and "Joyce" was also there. I thought... I will tell her and make sure she 'gets it'. After much coaxing from me, she prayed, but I don't know to this day if she 'got it', or was just anxious to get out of there and away from me!

I've also done the opposite, said nothing when I should have spoken in a situation. Of the 2, that extreme makes me feel the worst.

No wonder Jesus instructed us to seek Him first, to ask Him for openings and guidance and the right words for each situation.

We will never be wise enough to know a persons heart.

But Jesus does.

When I think about how fast this life is going by, and that unless someone knows Jesus personally, they are lost... it makes me bolder to share the good news. I am not a drinking fountain stalker, but I do want to be ready for each situation that God places me in, and my desire to share the hope that the world is seeking is much more on the front burner of my heart than ever before.

We don't need the world, but the world needs what we have.

Even as I write this, I am thinking... wouldn't it be wonderful to see Joyce in heaven one day.

Good morning! Great post! I too have done similar things where I have thought I just have to keep going, say the right thing, figure the best way, HOW do I handle this? etc. etc. And I sure in my early enthusiasm that I had those who wanted to run from me as well lol. But I love that we have only to be faithful, plant the seeds, and He does the rest. LOVE Greg Laurie! Have a good week Sonja!

That is amusing. New Christians are wonderfully zealous. Your story reminds me that anyone who must be convinced remains unconvinced still. Learning to wait for the green light may be the very best way to go; however, His Word never returns empty. Who know when The Lord will remind a person of the day all he wanted was a drink at the water fountain and some kid told him...

I think we'll be mighty surprised when we get to Heaven to connect with those whom we influenced in some way. It's fishing and He shows us just what to say and do to catch an opportunity. Apart from Him we don't succeed just like you said. Bless you as you share your faith; I'm sure you do it beautifully!

A great message, Sonja. And I'm with you, I am chagrined at all the moments when I stayed silent. Fortunately, God has a way of filling in the gaps of our inadequacies. But, I am asking Him to help me be bold and speak up when He tells me to!

"We don't need the world, but the world needs what we have."

Oh yes indeed, sister, well-said.

GOD BLESS!

Oh, yes, very well said. I have a family that I love dearly and they are Buddhist. Now, talk about hard. And, they are fine, fine folks but just as lost as lost can be. Their teenage daughter is a Christian and they do not have a problem with that. It is so hard to know how to approach them and I pray continually that I will know the time and that their hearts would be open. We can never be too prepared to share the greatest message on earth.

Happy rest of the week!

Oh yes Sonja! I have such a desire to see my loved ones come to know Jesus as their Savior and to walk with Him every day. That is my heart's desire. I also pray that the Holy Spirit would prompt me when to speak up and when to be silent. I work with people of many faiths. And many of the children I get to interact with each day come from a variety of faiths including Muslim, Hindu and others. But I pray for these children. And I pray that the light that is in me will draw them to Jesus.

From my Bible reading, I realized that it is my job to live out my faith and share when prompted. I may plant seeds and someone else waters. But it is up to God to draw them and save them. If only we would each do our part of the Kingdom work.

Such a timely reminder in these days Sonja.

Love you,
Debbie

Oh I think you and I were listening to the same radio shows this week. Even your pastor spoke on this this week also. Very convicting and timely. Thanks for the post.
I hope you are all okay over there. We are trying to decide if we need to build a boat, but so gratefully for the rain also. I hope Van is rebuilding also.

One thing's certain: I'm not called to be an evangelist. At one time I thought I might be a prophet, but then I gave that up since I didn't once give a prophetic utterance (that always makes me think of milk cows anyway ... you, udder-ance). Then I thought I might be called to a foreign missionary field, Russia to be exact. I abandoned that thought, too, when I discovered how difficult is the Russian language. Then I thought maybe I should lead women's ministry. Wrong again. That felt far too much like herding cats.

Alas, I've settled on lifestyle evangelism. Living alongside & serving the people in my life has had more of an impact than any of my other initiatives to actually save people.

Hugs,
Kathleen
