No, it's not Mother's Day...
but often a fellow blogger catches your eye and you find you are on the same page with her thoughts. Have you noticed that?
Today, as it has been many times with her, it was Janette and her blog title 'Rise up and call her blessed'.
That scripture, Proverbs 31: 28 - "Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her," brought to my mind how many times as I was growing up, my mom used that verse when she spoke to christian women's conferences and shared her testimony.
She would say...
"In our home, instead of my 3 children rising up and calling me blessed"... they rise up to make fun of me when I talk!"
She said it with a big smile, she knew we all loved her accent.
As we grew older, she claimed she had no accent left, after all, she had come to America as a young bride, many many years earlier, and she felt she had lost her accent long ago!
She NEVER lost her accent, and I'm so glad she didn't!
She knew very few words in English when she met dad in Norway as a young woman. Their love story was a heart story, certainly not full of the English language in the beginning.
She used to tell the story of a young Scandinavian bride who married a preacher and knew very little English. Her husband's church put on a big dinner to welcome her to their church and to America. When she stood to thank them, in faltering English she said...
"I tank you from da bottom of my heart, and I tank you from my husband's bottom too"... :)
My mother loved that story... I always thought it sounded just like her.
But oh did we rise up and call her 'blessed', with our whole hearts, to this very day.
So with all of you whose mothers are still here or are already in heaven... for the heart and life of those who loved us and taught us, I 'rise up and call them blessed.'

AMEN to that.
I believe that the longer they
are gone. The more we realize
what GREAT mothers they were.
Thanks for the post.

You always can just put the icing on anything I wrote...thanks for once again putting the icing on top...tag teaming familiar thoughts is wonderful
I saw a For Better or Worse comic one time..I love that comic...the man was looking out the window and his 30 year old son was mowing..the wife and him were trying to figure out why..the end comment was now that he was a Dad and husband he understood and wanted to bless his Dad
This encouraged me...when I have heard over and over again that usually when we realize how great our parents are is when we are in the trenches of parenting ourselves
You have blessed me once again with your heritage as I also thank God for mine
Oh that is so cute!!! I bet you loved that story so much. I am so glad in heaven someday, I will find her and say, I know Sonja, could I just sit and get acquainted? Won't it be a wonderful place? I keep thinking thoughts I guess because my Momma's birthday and the anniversary of her death in 1969 are coming up and heaven is in my thoughts and how great that homecoming will be someday.
I am so glad you shared this, thanks, it never gets easier does it, we just go on missing them.
Oh, I bet your Mom was so cute! Love both you and Jeanette's entries today. I miss my Mom every day and so thankful for the rich heritage she left behind. You get through the loss of a Mom but you never get over it. Blessings!
What a touching story if your mother. I wonder what my daughter here call me here coz I too have an accent. She is very helpful though correcting me:)
I can almost hear my grandma's accent when you wrote in a Norwegian accent. Love it and miss it too. And I love Janette too. I was planning to visit her blog post that you mentioned next.
Love you,
Debbie
A memory to make you smile. I can only imagine the wealth of material I'm leaving behind for my children in terms of their future laughter!
We really do laugh a lot in our home, each one of my kids with their own sense of humor. My daughter, in particular, has one of the most endearing, beautiful laughs. I hope she'll always find reasons to keep it.

I love this post, Sonja. From reading you previous stories about your growing up years, I already know that your mother is a great and strong woman of faith. This story has a funny side to it, but the bottom line is that she really was a woman to be praised.
Thank you for sharing it with us. I love my Norwegian friends, and in fact I also have a few Filipino friends now living in Norway and married to Norwegian men.
So, Norway really has a special place in my heart.
And, also I praise God your son Tommy is better.
Love

What a hilarious story! I do love a good accent.
My mom went to heaven years ago, so I feel blessed to read this post, and remember that her children were blessed indeed!
Something tells me you're one of those apples that hasn't fallen far from the tree :)
I'm a huge fan of mothers: mine, yours and everyone elses. I think I'm making up for all the lost time I spent thinking my mother was such a "fuddy duddy" (now I've aged myself for sure). She was anything but!
What honor you bestow upon your Mom. No doubt she "tanks" you, even now, from the bottom of her heart.
Hugs ...
