From the heart of Corrie Ten Boom....

I have shared on another blog that as a child, I came home from school one day and Corrie Ten Boom was sitting in our den having coffee with my mom and dad...

I didn't know much about her then, and much later, I read "The Hiding Place" the story of this Godly amazing woman who lived through so much during the war. Not only did she stand firm in her faith, but because of her faith, she soared above the circumstances of Hitler, war, concentration camp, etc., so when I read about her life, her words had such a strong impact, and I really listened.

When someone is in the midst of darkness, pain, and unimaginable horror all around them, and yet remains strong in their faith... you listen when they speak!

Listen to some of the things Corrie Ten Boom said from the heart of her lifetime of faith...

"Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength."

"Hold everything in your hands lightly, otherwise it hurts when God pries your fingers open."

"Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart."

"Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden."

"There is no panic in Heaven! God has no problems, only plans."

"It is not my ability, but my response to God’s ability, that counts."

“Worry is a cycle of inefficient thoughts whirling around a center of fear."

"Don't bother to give God instructions; just report for duty."

"If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. If you look at God you'll be at rest."

".....joy runs deeper than despair."

"There are no 'if's' in God's world. And no places that are safer than other places. The center of His will is our only safety - let us pray that we may always know it!"

"Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God"...

Corrie Ten Boom knew God, and she knew He was enough... for every situation! What a glorious testimony of a lifetime of faith and a race that was run well.

How cool that you got to meet her! I loved the book and the movie. It's been years - I need to read and watch them again.

My favorite story is the one about being thankful for the fleas!

I love this woman and her incredible life-story. I so enjoyed the movie, if "enjoy" is the right word. It struck my heart & soul deeply.

By reading just a few of her quotes it isn't hard to discern her wisdom; a wisdom born of pain & loss ... and such great joy.

Blessings,
Kathleen

That's amazing Sonja, that you have met Corrie Ten Boom as a child. The part of her story that always stuck with me was how she met up with that guard and was able to forgive him. I've often wondered if I would have the grace to do that. I know a Holocaust survivor personally, who is a Jew and not a Christian...she is in her mid 80's and has carried bitterness all these years. Wonderful post Sonja.

Corrie Ten Boom and the book/movie The Hiding Place is very special to us. When we owned a Christian store years ago we carried the video and it was very popular.

What a treat to have come home to her in your home speaking with your family.

You mentioned something Sonja about listening to someone when they have come from serious pain etc. I so agree. My Grandmother who went to the LORD in 1990, taught me something similar as a child.

Her stance was if someone older is speaking listen to them even if you know what they are saying already -- or even if you have some level of knowledge in that particular area the point is to be silent and GLEAN from them because they walked before you. It was wisdom I have never forgotten and it has served me well.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful message with us today.

I always enjoy my visits to your blog. I wish I could more often. Love and blessings!

I've read The Hiding Place at least twice. Last time this year. I also have a Corrie Ten Boom perpetual calendar in my kitchen. It's feeding my spirit every day.
I cannot imagine what it must have felt like to meet this faith giant.
She never doubted or blamed God, no matter what.
But after living through Holocaust went on praising his name and spreading the gospel.
Words really mean something coming from such a tried woman.
(But the devil loves reminding me how weak and shortcoming I am, especially when reading this. I'm showing him off. God choose me just like I am. Wonder over wonder.)

Love your son and his beautiful family as well.
May they be richly blessed.
