A word from Proverbs... too much talking! ...

"Don't talk so much. You keep putting your foot in your mouth. Be sensible and turn off the flow!" (Prov.10:19)

I love the Book of Proverbs! Today as I was reading, it occured to me that I am so blessed and challenged by many of the 'one liners' in this book of instructions, that maybe I should do a periodic blog, to remind
each of us of the practical, easy to understand truths in this book.

This is a great one to begin with... it's one that I've felt the sting and regret of many times. Do you relate?...

I love the way God gives us such perfect illustrations of His thoughts ... (each translation is a little different, but all make the same point!) He knows us... and His message is delivered in these chapters with such clear and direct words that there is no escaping the truth because it's "too complicated"!... He speaks right to my heart!

I'm pretty sure that one of the reasons I love Proverbs is because each verse IS short and to the point... I think my brain is the kind that likes to get right to the bottom line, and carry away a message that I can remember through the day!... There is so much practical truth in this book. I am caught by these 'one liners' that pack a punch... Proverbs is full of them!

Oh, yes. How many times I've just wished I could sew my mouth together! However, I've also learned my fingers and pen get me into trouble as well!

the proverbs! "open mouth, take out foot."

we should start a nomadic club for all the kids who
wandered through out the church when they were
supposed to be in sunday school.

oh, and the fits of giggles during the sermon, your
poor father! i've totally been there, actually just a
few sundays ago.

Awesome Sonja!

Proverbs is one of my favorite Books in the Word. I too enjoy the short, too the point words of wisdom and life. Some are very challenging but all are a blessings to help us to more like Christ.

Thank you for the open mouth insert big foot reminder of what NOT to do!

Love you!

I love Proverbs also and yes, always convicting, especially when we are reading a chapter with the kids and I had just violated one of the principals...always a teachable moment.

Oh, went to First Monday...didn't find the treasure you found...it is so different from when I was a child and even a young mother...my younger two got to experience it in the new form...but I did tell them where their great, great-aunt had a booth years ago.

Oh, you mentioned Round Top...did you know Ann Cunningham? She was a dealer there for some years.

Enjoyed proverbs...I needed the reminder,
Janette

Such wisdom in this book of Proverbs. I love the first one-liner that you chose. Of course, it's about our mouths. Why is it that we tend to feel we always need to say something and then sometimes end up regretting it?

I've prayed that the Holy Spirit would keep my mouth shut when it should be shut and give me the words to speak when those opportunities present themselves to share truths. My flesh at times thinks 'surely I need to respond to this' but felt no push from the Holy Spirit. It seems everytime I do speak on those times, it's a mistake.

Only God knows the heart of the other person. I so want to hear God's voice and be prompted as to when to speak.

This is from a sister who has put her foot in her mouth way too often. LOL.

Hugs and love,
Debbie

Appreciate the post. Appreciate Proverbs.
The one liners are best.
I hate to admit it, but often, due to the
press of time, I slide over some blogger's
posts because they are so wordy. Having
to pass up good stuff because they take
for ever to get to the point hurts.

Looking forward to the rest of Proverbs.

God bless you.

This is definitly a verse that speaks to me. Seems like no matter how hard I try, every once in awhile I find I have said TOO much.

And the Lord always allows me to know it!

Not only do I thrive on God's power & grace, but I relish His practical (often humorous) antidotes to ungodliness.

By the way ... they didn't call me "Chatty Kathy" as a child for no good reason. Me and my mouth have often been at odds. :)

Blessings,
Kathleen

The older I get, the more I realize how much more important listening, real heartfelt listening is, than always thinking I need to talk. I never leave a group of women, or a dinner party and regret that I listened too much, but oh, how many times did I regret that I talked too much. What real wisdom the book of Proverbs has to share with us. I thank you for this kind and loving reminder. What a wise lady you are.

The book of Proverbs is a treasure to be read slowly and learned by heart.
Talk is silver, silence is golden...

I bought the Bille Graham book partly because of your story about your family and Billy Graham.
I have almost read the book through, and got tons of inspirations. I also have been looking for more literature about angels,- I found a treasure.
Yesterday I was gathered with my best girl friends for a late night.
I told about the book. My friend Turid cried, "Oh, oh, Billy Graham,-" and then told the story about how she 15 years old sat in her room, reading one of his books about healing, actually got healed there and then from severe epilepsy.
(must have been back in 1962 or 3).
The power of the written word and the testimony of God's power, all across the world.
How great the love and concern of our Savior is.
