Are you a good sleeper??...

Do you sleep well at night??

I have to confess that many times I do NOT sleep very well...

In the darkness, satan loves to creep into my thoughts and poke his arrows of fear, doubt and questions...

There are times in this journey of life when worries and problems can threaten to overwhelm us. And when that happens, the darkest and most fearful time always seems to be during the night hours...

This verse is one I have gone to and claimed many times...

"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.! (Psalms 4:8)

There are many others...

"Be anxious for nothing...

"I will never leave you or forsake you"...

When the night hours loom long, and I am caught up in a whirlwind of my own scattered thoughts and I can't seem to slow down... this one always makes me sigh... with a measure of relief... not only will I 'lay down in peace, but I will also sleep. Why? Because only the Lord 'makes me dwell in safety". HIS safety covers EVERYTHING!...

I can't tell you that I always sleep right away... I've never been an 8 or 9 hour sleep person even on the best of nights, but what I do know is that when I think on that verse, it gives me 'permission' to rest my turbulent thoughts, to quit churning, and to KNOW that He has all of it covered!

One more time, it reminds me that it is a choice... "I WILL" lay me down... It's such a comfort to me that even our sleeping time is something He has thought of and addressed...

I need those reminders straight from the heart of our Father, and I am so thankful He has put them in His Word...

Wonderful! I am learning that when He gives me the peace that passes all understanding that I have to choose to keep that peace...which will allow a good night sleep. So many worries of the world, marriage or parenting can rob us of the peace He has provided for us.
Gratefully,
Janette
Oh, I would love to see a picture of your shutters hung up that you bought at Canton.

The first time I was ever away from home for a few weeks as a teen, that verse is what settled my homesickness and worries at night. Thank you for these verses. These are troubling times.

Many times I find myself fighting the sleep problem. When I lie down to sleep, my mind starts going 90 miles an hour and I find it hard to give it over to the Lord and let Him take care of it all. I'm so thankful that He understands and expects us to give it to him so that He can make us sleep.

Proverbs 3:24
when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

Sweet sleep :) May you experience nothing but the sweetest of sleep!

Oh Sonja, once again you touched on something that I needed at just the right time. Greg is sound asleep and I can't sleep. I'm reading blogs and checking email until I feel groggy. But maybe I need to take your advice and memorize these Scriptures.

Thank you for your prayers. Hopefully, we'll hear something on Friday. Now I will go to sleep.

Love you sis,
Debbie

Due to my 30 years of night shift, I probably hold title to the worst sleep habits of anyone in the country. It's terribly hard to sleep at night on my nights off. I no longer fight it, as one can tell by the time I usually post. I keep thinking that one day I'll work day shift, problem is I've become quite comfortable with the quietness of the night time.

Love that scripture...it is so comforting.

Oh, the peace we experience as we surrender ourselves to his promises!

Haven't even talked to you today (yet)...(your sister here)....and had to say this post hit it right square in the middle! Those "arrows of fear" were at me last night, so many things on my mind these days, and it drove me immediately smack back to HIM, thank you thank you! I love you!

I'm not a good sleeper either but I often fall asleep in the middle of praying as I lay there waiting for sleep to come.

For the most part I sleep very well. But even a tinge of adrenalin -- the source being fear, worry or anger -- can leave me wide-eyed for hours. Prayer helps immensely.

I can almost hear Bing Crosby singing ... "and if you're worried, and you can't sleep, count your blessings instead of sleep; and you'll fall asleep, counting your blessings."

Amen.

I can relate...especially after this past year and all the drama. My favorite is Proverbs 3:24
"When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet." I use to stand on that one.

Hugs,
Mary

For the most part in recent years I get a good night's sleep. I make it a habit to spend time before the Lord in the prayer room no matter how late it is or how tired I am. It's our time before bed. Then when I finally do crawl into bed - I read just a short chapter of whatever Christian book He has placed in my hands [just finished one called: The Covenant - and started a new one last night called: Jesus Manifesto] - then I turn off the light and go right off to sleep.

I ask the Lord to wake me early and He does!

Yes - by all means - REST THOSE THOUGHTS! I know a lot of people have trouble sleeping - but this is just my 2 cents of what works for me!

I never sleep through. I remember when I was younger sleep was easier to come by by sleeping through the night. Thank you for such a great post. Blessings dear one.

yes, the thief tries to steal our sleep and every good
thing we have. but, the Lord is so good to promise
to sing over us in the night and give us sleep.

thank you for persevering in the 'sunday lane' vote.
it is really so tiresome. she only comes around in
a random/computerized sort of way. sometimes i
will have to vote between other bands for stretches
of 10 minutes. other times she will come around
two or three times in a row.

be released from this arduous process and please
just pray for favor.

you're so sweet to have tried at all.

This is so important that I visited your blog today. You described me perfectly in this post. I want always to remember that first verse you shared. It is comforting to read that others struggle at times with this malady too. Love your solution.
