I can't do it! I can't write a blog without the use of the 3 dots...
See what I mean?
I am not a student of perfect punctuation. I only know that when I need to say something, those 3 dots are absolutely essential!
Here's what they do for me... they finish a thought in a sentence without any more words. They also lead into the next thought. A period doesn't do it the same way. I am HAPPY with those 3 dots!
So what are they exactly?
They are called an elipsis. To tell you the truth, I don't remember ever learning about an elipsis. I only know that I am a frequent user. Was I asleep during the lessons that taught us about that word??
If you have read my blogs for any length of time, you already know that I am a shameless 3 dot user.
I am a great speller, not so great at math, and now we know I'm a lost cause when it comes to correct punctuation. Here's the thing... I don't WANT to learn how to use those 3 dots in any way that changes the way I already use them.
I expect those dots to cover thoughts unexpressed, or add to thoughts already written. That's asking a lot of 3 dots.
So for me, and for this blog, 3 dots is in, and elipsis, as it was meant to be used, will probably not happen.
There! I said it...
three dots are what I use
even when I overlook and abuse...
those dots are part of how I speak
punctuation rules are not what I seek...
the dots, for me, fill in the thought
one more thing that can't be bought...
i try to write and leave them out
they sneak back in without a doubt...
so please be kind and bear with me
when you see 3 dots, just know it's she...
she is the one who speaks with dots
and your grace & acceptance means lots and lots!...

Another 3 dot abuser here! I 'caught' my disease from reading Herb Caen's column in the San Franciso Chronicle for many years...
I've been hooked ever since!
It's nice to know I'm not the only one!
Hugs ~
Careful. You will have us all
using three dots.
I know I didn't catch it from you...did you catch it from me? Ha! I do love not having to complete every thought or just trailing off...
Oh, I've used 3, 4 or 5 dots for a long, long time and I love them. LIke you, they finish my thoughts. Cute entry!
What a funny post! I have used the dots...sometimes more than 3...as long as I've been writing. It helps me write as I would speak...ya know...with the proper pause for processing :)
I was shamed in school. But they tried to get me to write cursive their expected way too. I just have a need to be somewhat independent of the masses. I call it creative...dots create a specific way to read our thots...
truthfully....i have not noticed your prolific use of the dots language, Sonja. Guess that's just one more thing we have in common :)
carry on...

Sonja, I'm a three dotter too! I use them in my blog posts all the time. I don't know if they're correct but I'm with you. I don't want to give them up. No way!
Love,
Debbie
I remember when I learned about them and I heard the name but I still call them the dot-dot-dot.
I like your word better. I like your poem too.
I know the Norwegian punctuation rules, but they diversify from the Norwegian... so I have become a three dotter long time ago.
"They times they are achanging."
Especially since the FB and text phone entered our lives.
The most important thing is getting understood.
What I've learned, is that there' a lot of good will among people...Isn't that nice?
I am laughing...and feeling so dumb. You know I use them and abuse them. My spelling, horrible, my grammar is worse, my thoughts still pour out on the pages of my blog. The three dots have become part of my thoughts.
Great post...you are too smart for me neighbor.
hahaha! Didn't know about elipsis. I'm in too and love 3 dots!!!!!
Hugs,
Mary
I am laughing...right out loud!!
I am quite the elipsis fan, too. Use them...well, all the time. I also write poetry, where they make frequent appearances. You should see me belaboring, though, on whether a particular line would be better served by an elipsis or a dash -
...also a favorite punctuation of mine!
Loved this, Sonja - and the poem was...well...just great!!
XO
Well since you have read my blog, you know that I am a fellow shameless three dot abuser.
If you ever had a conversation with me in person (Would love that!) You would know that I use them in writing because that's basically the way that I speak.
Yep ... I totally relate!
Huge fan of the ellipsis.
Don't we talk that way . . . in pauses? Let's just think of an ellipsis as the facial expressions that often accompany our conversations and that write a witness all their own:).
