when God says your name twice...

It's always interesting to me that when I write about something, God has a way of reinforcing it in my life.

Here's an example...

Just last week I posted a blog about Mary and Martha, and I know the message was for my heart... 'Mary & Martha' always hits close to home!

But... He wasn't finished...

Today as I was thinking of Mary & Martha, I went back to the way Jesus said "Martha, Martha", and a whole new thought was formed...

I knew right away that He could just as well have been saying "Sonja, Sonja"...

And what was Jesus feeling as he said her name... twice?

I'm pretty sure he was feeling a little less than thrilled that Martha didn't 'get it' in the way she should have. I feel like it was a patient but deep "Jesus sigh'... one of those that we have all given one of our much loved children, when they are somehow missing the mark on behavior that we have corrected many times before!

So now it is getting really personal. How many times has He said my name... twice?... A lot...

I want to up my learning curve, to be more in tune with Him more quickly in areas where I am too slow to respond ...

I don't really want Jesus to have to say 'Sonja, Sonja' in that way!

I have no doubt that Martha learned something important that day, as her sister chose to sit & listen to Jesus. The lesson for Martha is just as relevant for Sonja today!

The story of Mary and Martha is close
to my heart as well. And, yes, the Lord
has spoken to me many times in the way
you speak of. "When will you finally
get this?" Thank the Lord for His tender
mercies and patience. The lesson for
Martha will always be relevant for all
of us.
Blessings,
Sandy

Oh Sonja,

You are WRITING my heart here! I think we can all relate to Martha/Mary.

You said it best for me when you said:

"I want to up my learning curve, to be more in tune with Him more quickly in areas where I am too slow to respond ..."

I know He says, "Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, Lisa...." with that patient sigh. I know it's more than twice and as you said I want to up my learning curve too. One new years I asked the LORD as I prayed giving thanks to HIM for yet another year that year... I said, "LORD, what can I do for you?". With the most loving, patient and corrective tone I could hear in my spirit -- "Daughter, obey Me the first time I speak". I've never forgotten that and it's both an encouragement and a discipline for me. With tears that day I answered, "Yes, Lord and please forgive me for the times I don't and help me Holy Spirit to get quickly back on track when I get off".

I love you Sonja...I'm at the feet of Jesus with you!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if there could be just the perfect balance of Martha/Mary in each of us?

While others often relate to Martha, I relate to Mary. Strangely enough though I often hear the Lord telling me, "OK Debra, Debra! It's time for you to get up and do something"!

I recall one time having to say the oddest thing to my youngest son, who is now a youth minister. He was in high school and had hurried home from school one evening and was hurrying off to church for some youth activity that was going on.

As he was going out the door, I said Son, you NEED to check the oil in your car! He said Momma, I can't I gotta get to church right now.

As he was running out to his car to leave, being frustrated at him, I yelled across the yard at him, "Son, your so heavenly minded your no earthly good!!!"

As I was closing the door, it dawned on me, how many mothers get to say THAT to their teenaged sons?

That ole' oil glugging car went with him to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. And yes,one cold winter morning it finally died from lack of oil. LOL!

Didn't mean to write a book here, but your post prompted this unusal memory!

Blessings,
Debra

What's really scary is when my wife says, "Ron,Ron, come now let us reason together". I know I'm in BIG trouble. :-)

Sonja, I love this post and echo everyone else here! I praise Him for His patience and long to quickly respond to His call of my name the first time around but know that I've fallen short so many times.

Your post stirred and inspired my heart, sweet friend!!

Love,
Jackie
