Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?....

One of my dad's favorite preaching topics was...

"Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?"...

At the beginning of this new year, it's on my mind and heart, for my life.  I have an increasing desire to know what HE wants for me, in ways I haven't yet discovered, ways that will fulfill me as HIS person, not my own.

I don't want to be:

...too content with less to really dig deeper for more

...too self consumed to listen for His voice in the noise of my life

...too busy, doing and being and running... to miss the excellence of His best

I know He has more for me.

I don't want to run around in my own self made circles trying to figure out what that is...

Charles Stanley said this morning... "While we wait, we are not doing NOTHING... we keep taking one step at a time doing what we already know, AS we wait for God's answer..."

So my prayer for this year is...

"Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do."

Ah, so beautiful, Sonja. My Scottish grandmother used to say, "I, being in the way, was led by the Lord." What she meant was that she always made sure that she was firmly walking in the Narrow Way, and that being firmly planted where God wanted her, HE would then lead her to His plans and purposes.

So, it's similar to what you're saying. Lord, teach us YOUR way, and help us to follow it obediently.

GOD BLESS!

(As a sidenote, God gave me a *word* for 2014 - and it's a difficult one, for it doesn't come naturally to me. It's - JOY. Posted about it today. Evidently, one of the things that the Lord "wilt have me to do" is to incorporate JOY into my soul...)

I echo your prayer...living life on purpose...in His purpose. I struggle with knowing if I'm where I am because He planted me here...or am I missing His greater opportunity. I think its ok to keep asking Him if I'm where He wants me to be...otherwise, I stop seeking the more of Him...that He has for us!

Blessings for your New & continued journey

Good question, and one that can only be answered if we stay still long enough! I may not know exactly what He wants me to do in terms of specifics, i.e., job, etc....but Jesus sure made it clear about one thing that will keep us busy all the days of our lives:

L O V E O N E A N O T H E R.

This one hits home. I hope that I am listening!

This is a good word; it is going to be a good year for sure! My word is "rest." No more striving. He goes before me.

Yes!! I love what you said here and love the hope for the new year.

When you said this: "I don't want to run around in my own self made circles trying to figure out what that is..."

You hit the nail on the head for me. I agree so much with Charles Stanley. I remember teaching the difference between kinetic and potential energy to my students with a little song about both of them being energy. I takes as much energy to wait as it does to act sometimes. (In fact, it might even take more!)

And now, I'm singing that song... complete with the motions.

Good-ness.

I like that Sonja, That is always a good way to think. I heard that from Charles Stanley too and I pondered as I walked. Waiting is so hard though, because I start the same ole litany of what if's.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts today.

I want to always be in the center of His will and palm of His hand! In fact that's what I often pray. When we go around in circle we get dizzy and then it's hard to follow along His narrow path.
Thanks for reminding me of this good way to think about things. I want to always do His will.

I agree...and Oswald Chambers address the waiting in his devotional this week. He said there are three levels of spiritual life - worship, waiting and work - God's idea is that all three should go together as one.

So true Sonja. I know the times when I went ahead and did something, it ended up backfiring. So it's best to wait upon the Lord.

Love you,
Debbie
