7 gold nuggets...

I've just now finished reading the book on my dad's life... Everything by Prayer...

I was really late in reading this., and having finished it, I know that now was God's timing for me to have read it. I probably wasn't as prepared to hear the truths contained there until now... even though I have always hidden them in my heart...

What the author, Fred Hartley, describes as the life of my dad, is what I LIVED and experienced, as his daughter... It's like my sister and brother and I say to each other... 'how could we live in their home and be raised by these 2 parents, and be so slow in getting to some of the truths we watched them live by'!!

But they were the first to encourage us, and challenge us in our own faith, without making us feel guilty, day by day and year by year...

These 7 nuggets are what my dad called the 'golden promises in the Gospels:

1. "Whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (John 14:13, NKJV)

2. "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." (14:14, NKJV)

3. "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." (13:7 NKJV)

4. "In that day... most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my Name He will give you." (16:23 NKJV)

5. "Whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you." (15:16 NKJV)

6. "Until now you have asked nothing in My name, Ask and you will receive, that your joy may be full." (complete) (16:24 NKJV)

7. "In that day you will ask in My name." (16:26 NKJV)

Fred goes on to quote dad's writing in his monthly prayer letter to other ministers...

"When I was a boy, my father once gave me a 5 dollar gold piece. I felt rich! I treasured it and kept it for the right time before I used it. Here Jesus gives His disciples and us 7 gold pieces: freshly minted prayer promises, golden nuggets. Who can estimate their value? When the Lord offers the same thing 7 times we had better listen.

Can you imagine what would happen in the gold rush days if suddenly they saw not one but SEVEN large nuggets of pure gold?...

But here in full view are 7 gold nuggets in God's Word. Any one of us can have all 7 without interference or competition. Cash in on them! ... He said so!... If we are willing, we are able to pray as He prayed and to get answers like His."

So... are these promises only for THEN or rather for NOW and for each one of us to claim, in faith, as we pray, remembering that our faith is based on HIS promises....

Your father was a very wise man and how great it is that someone wrote a book of his life for you to now enjoy and be blessed by. Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to take these seven gold nuggets with me as reminders to pray, ask and believe!

Blessings Sonja, have a great day in the Lord.
Debra

PS; If it is possible to purchase that book, I would love to buy a copy. I am a huge fan of autobiographies!

I have to say that I loved reading this book about your dad. I read it when I was alone in the mountains. What a blessing it was to me. I'm still going to write about my thoughts from what I read and learned. I've just had so much going on right now. But when I return, I shall do so.

How fortunate you were to have a Dad who loved the Lord as yours did. I know what you mean though about being taught and not always getting it.

Love you,
Debbie

me to have an object in mind to remember
things.

it just astounds me to read of your amazing
heritage, and i think MUCH more of your
parents' teaching and living has stuck than
you realize!

love,
lea

ps. when i leave a comment, does it go to
your email? and then are you able to click
right on my comment and go to my blog?
someone said that was very important, but
i have no idea how to check. sigh.

Yes and seven is the number of completion...so there were seven.
What a heritage you have! What a blessing! But it is also so encouraging to see that God's word doesn't come back void before it accomplishes what it was sent to do. Your parents training did the same.
This encourages me in my parenting walk...when I think they just don't get it! When I think it wasn't worth the time....it is. God will accomplish His plan in His timing...not ours.
Thanks for sharing, what an awesome treasure.

I'm clueless on the comments thing. It doesn't go right to my email, it goes to my blog, and I've told you all I know about it. Sometimes it's hard to be so 'tech challenged!'... :)

There is no better heritage than the legacy left by a godly parent! How rich you are; and in so many ways.

The nuggets are precious, as you say - primarily because they're God's own promises. But equally precious are the reflections of a proud daughter.

Thank you for sharing.

It is early in the morning again for me and I looked forward to visiting your blog. As I read through each post, identifying with Mary and Martha, feeling deep appreciation for the way bloggers continue to bless and inspire me on my daily life journey, and receiving beautiful golden nuggets of Truth from one that lived life believing them...has been the perfect way to start my Labor Day weekend. Thank you Sonja for being a real inspiration and blessing in my life. I am so thankful for you.
