From the sublime to the ridiculous...

When I look over the titles of past blogs I've written, they are all over the ballpark!

This one is no exception.

Isn't life like that? I can be caught up in a deep new spiritual truth in the morning, and know that God is specifically speaking to my heart... and by the afternoon I am caught up in the traffic on the main street close to where I live, and wondering how the guy who just cut in front of me could be so rude as to force his way into our line of cars who have been patiently waiting for a long time. I don't do it, but I FEEL like honking my horn and telling him how rude he was!

I am thankful every day for the grace of God!

I need His grace, about 100 times every day. I'm so glad that since I am created by God, He cared enough to include many facets into each one of us. I am serious, hilarious, spiritual, ridiculous, emotional, sensitive, creative, hopeful, etc. I am, most of the time, content with a life that holds lots of laughter, as well as tears, joy and happiness as well as sadness.

One of the special things He designed into us is humor...

Today is just plain for fun, and maybe you can relate to this time in your own life, even though it's been awhile...

Questions on pregnancy and child birth...

Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q : I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.

Q : What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?
A: Childbirth.

Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's borderline irrational.
A: So what's your question?

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.

Q?: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labor?
A: Not unless the word "alimony" means anything to you.

Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?A: Yes, pregnancy.

Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly.

Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again?
A: When the kids are in college.

Rough and right on the peak of it.
I got a good laugh.
I'm not sure one ever is acting "normal" after having had a child. My daughter has been away at college for four years now, but our world still much revolves around her. After Skype distance is neither a problem nor a shelter.

Hi Sonja,

I like the thoughts you shared, you've got the Gift of humor. Amen!

HAHAHA! I think the last one is spot on! I worried about that empty nest and ended up liking the newlywed nest part of it. I never would have believed it, but the college years are pretty wonderful. They are still wholly "yours" but there is Mom and Dad time too.

Even if said Mom and Dad are subsiding on peanut butter and jelly...

And I loved your email and thank you more than I can say. I have tried to respond, and I plan to, but I'm overcome with a charity thrift sale this week, and it's making me cr-az-y.

Grace - only 100 times a day?? You're doing better than me!

OK, this was delightful. Only a mother could appreciate all the subtleness of this humor. I enjoyed every single minute. I'm thinking we've got to come up with some menopause stuff, don't you? Personally, I think menopause is equally as "funny" as pregnancy and childbirth. Except there's no reward at the end - no precious baby!

So, I'm re-tooling two of your questions.

Q. My wife is in her menopause and so moody that sometimes she's borderline irrational.
A. This is not a question - this is a statement of fact. Any rational male who isn't having a hot flash would know that...oh, sorry - just had a flush of hormonal cranky there for a second. Now I'm crying about it.

Q. When will my menopausal wife begin to feel and act normal again?
A. In heaven.

So, I have found that childbirth gives you an excuse. Monthly cycles give you an excuse. Perimenopause gives you an excuse. Menopause? That's when you finally have to admit that you're just plain crazy!!

LOVE TO YOU!

Life is terribly funny, isn't it? Sometimes it takes me awhile to see the humor in any given situation, but usually I can glean at least a wee bit by the time the day, or situation is over. I think God has a merry laugh. I don't know why, but I do. Can't you just hear it rippling across the universe?

Grace ... ah yes. Thank God it's new every morning because I use it all up by day's end - - of that I'm certain!

It's so good to maintain a sense of humor. Life is hard enough and it helps to laugh. My mom always had a joke ready to share even when she was in such pain. She was a good example for me. And that reminds me that I have to look up some knock knock jokes. The kids at school love them, even the three and four year olds. :)

Keep on smiling Sonja!

Love you,
Debbie

Thanks for the laughs this morning. That first one gave me a really good chuckle. I too, am amazed at how I can have such a thankful, happy spirit in the midst of morning devotions, and then as I'm taking the kids to school, fighting Chicago traffic, growling and snarling. Yet, God loves all my antics anyway. Thankful He is so gracious.

A good dose of laughter is never wasted on me. Neither is grace. I imagine it would be great fun to travel around with you for a day and get to know the many facets of you! You are a delight to my heart, and I'm glad to call you friend.

Praying your Saturday is filled with many "grace" reminders as you travel throughout this day.
