The week that wasn't...

This past week has come and gone, but I can barely remember all the details...

I started out by going to see Gracie, and it was beyond special!! The days were cut short by a phone call... our son in law thought he was going to the doctor for indigestion or acid reflux... instead, he was directed to a quick appointment with a cardiologist and the next day had open heart surgery, 4 bypasses.

I've been back and forth, staying with our 3 granddaughters while he and our daughter have been in the hospital. So many thoughts...

1. The grace of God that lead him to the right doctor BEFORE a heart attack or stroke, which he could well have had.

2. His age, he is so young to be having this serious heart issue to deal with.

3. His age, BECAUSE he is so young, a few days after 4 bypasses, he is already at home and doing just fine.

4. The church body that have surrounded them in the hospital is more than a blessing, it is amazing! Not to mention that their refrig is FULL!

5. The reminder to all of us, life is short, and on any given day, who knows but God, what may happen.

6. The prayer chains that were formed for Philip immediately, have been strong and incredible, and God has heard those prayers, and He is blessing this whole situation.

7. Because our son in law is a fit, healthy, determined, focused and strong guy... his healing is going to amaze us all.

8. A precious time for mimi and her 3 beautiful granddaughters! They are absolutely wonderful. We had a 'family meeting' and the insight and comments they shared were incredible.

9. A heart of thanksgiving that ' all our children have been taught of the Lord, and have taught their own children, and great is the peace of our children." And even more... great is the peace of their parents and grandparents!

So... all is well, and here I am, back home again, hubby glad to see me, and all the normal activities and work are still waiting for me! :)

Praise God! As you say, we never know... How wonderful that this situation was averted. It is heartwarming to know that your granddaughters have their own faith and relationship with Christ. Praise God again!

Oh praise God Sonja! Thank God for all the things you mentioned. That this was discovered BEFORE anything more serious happened right at the top of the list. And precious time spent with your grand daughter! And to KNOW they ALL know Him. Doesn't get a lot better in my book. Praying for a speedy recovery! HUGS

Wow! how scary! Yes, we never know what each day holds. So, so happy this was caught before his life was threatened.

And, so glad for your special time with the granddaughters. How sweet!

Praying your SIL will continue to do well. Blessings!

Mercy! This sudden turn of events is akin to what Debbie over at Heart Choices asked about today.

What would we do if we suddenly had only a month to live? We just never know what the next day will bring.

So glad your son is recovering well and is strong and determined.
Blessings to you.

I praise God for all of the miracles before hand and the ones you saw afterword. My goodness he is so young and his family is so young. I am so glad you were able to be there. I am glad you had time with the girls. I am so glad God kept his hand on your family. I will be praying too. I praise God tonight.

I had missed you in Blog Land! What a praise that you were there to oversee the granddaughters during this time and that God directed him to see that doctor before it was too late or at least much later.

God's people are just plain good people. I'm so glad their family is part of the family of God.

Thanking in advance for his complete recovery and fresh new start.

Dear Sonja,
What a nerve wrecking experience both for your son-in-law, his beautiful family and your.
My blog friend Steve E has taught me that the Lord's timing is perfect, and I am experiencing over and over again that he is true.
Your strong testimony today is about a lone line of perfect timings.
How great that the entire family is wrapped in God's love and care.
I have reminded God about his promises for your family just now and I am full of hope!!!

Oh dear SOnja,
What a wonderful post you have written about the week that wasn't... well, it really should have been the week that could have been but wasn't, because it could have been a disaster, but God averted it. My heart is singing is rejoicing with you and your family. THe pictures of Gracie and Philip and the three daughters is so beautiful, all of them in jeans, and in black tops...

Great indeed is your peace when you know you have taught your children and they in turn pass it on to their children. Craig Hill calls it Generational Evangelism. And the chain never breaks because each link is faithful to keep the chain strong and connected.

Glad I came by this morning.

OMG...thank God the docs caught what was really wrong with your sil. That in itself is a miracle. Glad he's home and doing fine.....it's true that it's sort of a wake up call though to live our best lives b/c we don't know.....
Praying for him to stay well and strong.

Wow. I'm so glad everything is working out OK. Then again, in God's economy it always does.

I know how exhausting all that "filling in" and "running around" can be.

I pray your son-in-law heals quickly.
