Night cometh...

There is a beautiful church in Dallas, the church where my hubby grew up. On the very top of a tall steeple is a huge clock mounted in the center, for all of Dallas to see as they drive by. Right under the midnight hour are the words... NIGHT COMETH.

There is such a strong message in these 2 simple words. As people drive by and see it, they immediately think of night coming, and life ending. It must cause some serious thoughts.

As believers, we know that NIGHT COMETH. Our days on this earth will be over, and we will face eternity, with hope and certainty.

For the unbeliever, what are they thinking about as they read those words. Night is coming for them too. I pray it is a reminder that this life is going to end, and that maybe they are rushing to fill their days without purpose or meaning. A wake up call. Maybe a time to ponder what on earth they are doing here, and where are they going when their own final night comes?

Either way, it is a caution. For us, that life is short, and we are to 'redeem the time'... we don't know the final day or hour when life will end. All of life is ticking toward midnight...

NIGHT COMETH!

That is sobering, though I would imagine that most drive by without seeing. There is the universal dream, however, where one wakes cold and clammy in the grip of terror with the realization I, too, shall die. I like to be aware that this mortal life is not forever, but prefer not to dwell there. Great church tower with a helpful message for those who pay attention.

Great thought. A thought that makes one stop for a moment and contemplate the brevity of life. Thankfully, there is a great morning waiting for the believer. And we must sense the urgency to pass on this message of salvation to those who need it so.

GOD BLESS!

(P.S. Finally got to come home last night after the evacuation. Words cannot express my gratitude - for the prayers of many friends, and for the providential protection of the Lord!)

What an interesting and convicting thing to write below the clock. I agree that it ought give cause to pause and consider how we spend our days.

Of course, I my mind also wandered as I read this and some comments to the beautiful song, "Then Came The Morning". I'm so glad that because of Jesus Christ, my death will mean life.

How true your words are! Life is just a blink of an eye but how thankful I am to have eternal life through Jesus. My heart becomes heavy when I think of my loved ones who don't yet know Him. But I continue to pray and live the abundant life in front of them.

Love you,
Debbie

There are so many that are caught up in the busyness of this life that they give no thought to the fact that "night cometh" I can be guilty of this myself, filling my days with things that have little eternal value...a good reminder to me to redeem the time I have been given

This is so wonderful, Sonja. I am so grateful Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I do sorrow though for family members who have little or no interest in Him.
Blessings~

What powerful words on such public display! (Kind of like "In God We Trust"...)

Familiarity either breeds contempt or calls for contemplation. For me, the latter.

Now that is why I am praying for revival!
I will have to watch for it when going through Dallas

Exactly! As we discussed via email, these realities cannot be ignored. Such sobering truths ought to compel the believer to walk humbly with their God 24/7. I needed this!

These words don't frighten me as they might some. Night time is often the right time for God to do a deep, soul-work in me. I've not always appreciated the hours between dusk and dawn, but God's has kept me in them all.

Oh that our world would heed these words and go to the deep places with God!

Love this, Sonja.
