My wedding dress...

I heard it on our local news one night. A doctor's wife had started a special program at their local hospital.

When a newborn baby didn't live to come home, the parents were so grief stricken, and she wanted to do something special for that baby and the mom and dad.

She took her wedding dress, and created a one of a kind beautiful gown for the baby.

The idea hit a chord. Ladies began to call and donate their wedding gowns and she found others who could sew and create this beautiful little garment.

My wedding dress has been in the Bullock's box all these years, high up in the closet. It served it's beautiful purpose many years ago, and it's for sure I won't be needing it.

I am sending my dress to this very special caring group, and I am praying for the one who will wear it, and for the family of this precious little one.

Before I send my wedding dress to them, I am repeating a blog a did awhile back, one that has each of our grandaughters(except the 2 newest) wearing my dress, and the poem I wrote to reflect on that day...

I pulled the big Bullocks box down from the shelf

memories held of a long ago self...

4 young girls giggling with glee

trying on dress, from a bride that was me...

one by one they came down the curved stairs

holding the dress, sticking clips in their hair...

the rest of us stood at the bottom and sang

'here comes the bride' ... the descent began...

flip flops and shorts under satin and lace

but what captured my heart was the look on each face...

a hint of 'shy' and a smile of joy

thinking more of the dress and less of 'the boy'...

but that will all change in the coming years

and the hopes for these 'brides' is what caused my tears...

a little fun on an ordinary day

snapshots of life in a special way...

OH that is just lovely, what lovely photos of the girls in your dress and what a wonderful way to share it with others.
I am going to tell my daughters. I am sure they would love to know their dresses will be put to use for something that is so special.
Glad to see you back Sonja.

I never tried on my grandmother's wedding dress; however, my daughter did and there was some emotion in the room that day. What sweeties and they'll not forget wearing "the dress."

What a precious thing you are doing. I don't think that I could. God bless you and those who will be comforted.

What a wonderful, wonderful thing to do! Soo selfless and giving. My wedding dress got ruined years ago...a long story...or I'd be tempted to do the same. LOVED the photos of the girls in your dress, and the poem you wrote as well. I am sure they will always remember the time of wearing grandmas dress. Glad your back Sonja! Enjoy your week!

I would say that your gown has been repurposed in wondrous ways. I loved each of your granddaughters and your commentary. The parents of the babies will be blessed by your kindness.

Oh Sonja, I am smiling as I'm reading. What a beautiful poem and loved the photos of the little ones in the wedding dress. But oh, what a wonderful idea to donate the dress for the babies. Love that! I do remember Bullock's.

Love you,
Debbie

Priceless! I have both mine and my mother's stored in the attic. I love the ministry of this group and those who are giving their precious treasures for this beautiful cause.

My goodness, what a GREAT IDEA! To see the joy on the faces of little girls feeling like a princess...that is one of the best gifts. Our Lord has so much in store for us that sometimes I think it is an innate desire to be "royalty!" And my friend, thank you for visiting and I wish you a GREAT BIRTHDAY the month of June! Anita

How wonderful! Had I not lost my own wedding dress of one of our many moves, I'd be doing the same. I simply cannot fathom the loss of a child.

I got a kick out seeing those little girls all dolled up. What dreams were seeded then will certainly surface again and again.
